PTA Activities
The PTA has created and supports many programs that we take for granted at Jefferson, including classroom supplies and materials, field trips, scholarships for after school programs, parent education, and the many fun-filled evening activity nights. The school website is created and maintained by PTA volunteers. The PTA also serves as an important mechanism to relay the concerns of parents to the Principal and school district officials.
PTA Events
The PTA puts on many popular community events throughout the year including Halloween Fun Night, Reading Night, Cultural Night Potluck, Family Art Night, Math Night, the Mayfair, Juneteenth, Kindergarten-First Grade Play Date, and Graduation.
See the calendar for information about upcoming events.
Supporting Our School
In the 2003-04 budget: Over $15,000 goes directly to teachers for classroom support: $6150 is allocated to teachers for field trips, $7400 goes to teachers for supplies, $2000 for computer improvements/maintenance.
Other major expenditures include: $1500 for Assembly programs, $1500 for community events (listed above), $2500 for the Mayfair, $2600 for After School activities and scholarships, $1000 for Voyager. The PTA also funds Conflict Managers, provides money for facilities, gardening, discretionary money to the Principal, and provides support for a host of other school programs and events.
Raising Funds
Of this year’s approximately $34,000 budget, $10,000 is slated to come from eScrip, $5,000 via the Dollar Drive, $4,500 Walkathon, $5,600 Gift Wrap profits, $7,500 from the Mayfair, and the rest from a variety of other activities.

PTA Suggestion Box
Your suggestions and inventiveness make this PTA a success. If you have ideas about how the Jefferson PTA could make our school an even better place to be, do one of the following:
- Contact the PTA co-chairs.
- Email the pta at
- Write down a suggestion and drop it off in the PTA box in the main office.
Every event that the PTA does, every action that it takes, is the result of someone making the suggestion: "Why doesn't the PTA do ..." Our school is blessed with many individuals who give generously of their time. Your suggestion on how to strenthen our community can use those skills and abilities.
One hundred years ago national PTA founder Alice McLellan Birney said, “Let us have no more croaking as to what cannot be done; let us see what can be done, and above all see that it is done.” That brisk philosophy still drives the PTA today. While the methods may change to make us more responsive to the demands of an electronic era, the underlying principle does not – “every child, one voice.”
