The Walk-a-thon is coming! That means the whole school gets a brief respite from the classroom, and we walk together around the block no more than ten times. Each step taken gets students closer to another beloved break from the classroom for PE and fieldtrips!
How does it work?
Children earn money by asking family, friends and neighbors to pledge an amount of money for each lap they walk or a flat amount. If each child brings in just one pledge of $1 per lap and walks all ten laps, the school gets about $2,800. With the current budget crisis, this money is urgently needed. Just think if each child brought in five pledges!
All pledge sheets must be turned in by the day of the Walk-a-Thon. Many people who make pledges will prefer to pay up-front. For the others, students will let them know how many laps they walked and will collect the money the following week. Every pledge helps, no matter how small.
Prizes
The class with the highest percentage of students with pledges (or, in case of a tie, the highest average number of pledges) wins a trip to Adventure Playground at the Berkeley Marina.
Second and third-place classes also win a prize.
Every student who returns their pledge money by April 25th will be part of a raffle with great gifts that encourage physical fitness, like bike helmets, soccer balls, Frisbees and a sports watch!
To Volunteer at This Event
Let the Walk-a-thon Coordinator know if you are willing to help out this year by emailing at victoria_AT_eisenletunic.com or calling 525-1232. Even if you can't be there the whole time, you can sign up for an 8:00-9:30am or 9:30-11:00am shift. Note: if everyone does this, then we'll need twice as many volunteers!
Gather Pledges
Download the Walkathon Pledge Sheet. It is available in both English and Spanish. Print the pledge sheet and visit your neighbors, talk with your friends, relatives, and co-workers. Post a pledge sheet in the lunch room!
