Mayfair Needs You!

This year’s theme is “Our School Rocks!” and we encourage kids (and parents) to dress up as their favorite rock stars!  If you were wondering how you can help out at Mayfair, wonder no more!  Here are the many ways you can get involved, and you can sign up at or by emailing one of the Mayfair Coordinators (info below).

First, sign up for a shift at your classroom’s booth!  Sign up on the signup genius link by scrolling to our class booth and click on the time slot you would like or sign up on the sheet that is posted outside your classroom door.  Directions for how to run the booth will be provided the day of the event.

We also would love for you to help out with any of the below items:

  • Sign up to bake a cake for the cake walk or a baked good for the bake sale! (Prizes will be awarded for the most creative cakes!)
  • Sign up to grill food
  • Sign up to paint faces (we could always use more face painters!)
  • Sign up to set up, clean up, or be a floater who can fill in where there are needs the day of event
  • Sign up to help sell merchandise
  • Bring in small items to use for prizes (collection box for prizes is outside the school office)
  • Sell your raffle tickets to friends and family and sign up for a shift to sell at Cheeseboard or Monterey Market
  • Lend a grill, propane tank, and/or popup tents

Mayfair Carnival Prize Drive

In an effort to reduce costs, and maybe even to reduce the carbon footprint of Mayfair, we are collecting toys, trinkets, and party favor items as prizes for the “every one wins” games.

What are we looking for?

Toys and party favor items that are in mint condition, e.g. little containers of bubbles that have never been open, decorative pens and pencils that have not been used, super balls, little yo-yos, bracelets, rings, little animal figurines, stickers, tatoos, you name it. As long as it is not used, broken, or potentially dangerous. Basically, if you would not want your child to be given the item, please don’t donate it.

Where to Donate

In the main office is a box labeled “Mayfair Carnival Prize Drive.”Please put your donations in the box. And you’re done—we’ll handle the rest.

Mayfair features carnival games, tattoos, face painting, art, music, dancing, and… more! Each classroom has been assigned a carnival booth to help run. We need everyone involved to make it work! Every game wins a prize.

This year’s carnival activities include:

  • Lollipop pull
  • Bean Bag Toss
  • Ping Pong Squirt Race
  • Fishing Game
  • Ocean Bean Bag Toss
  • Duck Pond
  • Basketball Throw
  • Frog Launcher
  • Smoothie Bike
  • Body Art : Face Painting & Tattoos

Cake Walk and Cake Contest

Wanted—Dastardly delicious and delightful delectables for the cakewalk.Bake a cake and bring it to the Mayfair. Cakes will be judged for both kid and parent cakes. Judging starts promptly at 11:15, with prizes for kids and adults. All cakes become prizes for the cakewalk.

Raffle Ticket Sales

The raffle is responsible for bringing in 80% of the Mayfair proceeds, with 100 % of the money going directly to Jefferson.Raffle tickets are given to every child and should make it home in their backpacks. We hope every family will take part in selling them. There are fabulous prizes, so it’s an easy sell! Students will receive tickets for prizes at the Carnival prize booth for selling raffle tickets

This year’s prizes include an iPad mini, park-hopper tickets to Disneyland, guest passes to the Bay Area Discovery Museum, and other tickets and gift certificates for local attractions, eateries, and businesses. Raffle ticket sales bring in close to $15,000 to help support everything from field trips to PE coaches at Jefferson!

Plant Sale

Another great part of Mayfair is the beautiful potted plants created by parents at Jefferson. These arrangements make beautiful gifts!

Do you have succulents in your garden? Hens-and-chicksEuphorbiasAgavesSedums? Could some of them use a little pruning? The Mayfair plant sale team is looking for donations of any and all succulents, and if you have the plants in your yard, it’s easy: Snap off a couple of rosettes, or a baby plants that are beginning to crowd out their parents, and drop them off in the Plant Sale box in the school office. No need to keep the stems moist, or any kind of special handling. Thank you!

We’d also like to have a section of scented geraniums, a.k.a.pelargoniums, in the Plant Sale. They’re super-easy to propagate. Just snip off a small branch and stick the cut end into a pot of soil. The cutting will put out roots without any special treatment, just sunlight & water. If you don’t have a container handy, you can wrap the cut stem in a bit of wet kitchen towel or toilet paper, and put the cutting in a plastic bag. The Plant Sale crew will take care of potting up & tending the cuttings until Mayfair.

Where to Donate

There will be a plant box by the school office through Thursday, May 18.
