Mayfair Carnival Prize Drive

In an effort to reduce costs, and maybe even to reduce the carbon footprint of Mayfair, we are collecting trinkets and party favor itemsas prizes for the “every one wins” games.

What are we looking for?

Only small, typical party favor items that are in mint condition, e.g. little containers of bubbles that have never been open, decorative pens and pencils that have not been used, super balls, little yo-yos, bracelets, rings, little animal figurines, stickers, tatoos, you name it. As long as it is not used, broken, or potentially dangerous. Basically, if you would not want your child to be given the item, please don’t donate it.

Where to Donate

In the main office is a box labeled “Mayfair Carnival Prize Drive.”Please put your donations in the bucket. And you’re done—we’ll handle the rest.

Mayfair features carnival games, tattoos, face painting, art, music, dancing, and… more! It is up to you. We are encouraging each class to sponsor a booth at the Mayfair. You can take charge of an old favorite or add something new. Every game wins a prize.

This year’s carnival activites include:

  • Root Beer Floats – Yum!
  • Stomp Rockets
  • Duck Pond and Ring Toss
  • Basketball Throw
  • Fishing Booth
  • Frog Launcher
  • Body Art : Face Painting & Tattoos

Cake Walk and Cake Decorating Contest

Wanted—Dastardly delicious and delightful delectables for the cakewalk.Bake a cake and bring it to the Mayfair. Cakes will be judged for both kid and parent cakes. Judging starts promptly at 11:15, with prizes for kids and adults. All cakes become prizes for the cakewalk.

This year’s cake decorating themes are Blast off to Mayfair and Reach for the Stars.

Raffle Ticket Sales

The raffle is responsible for bringing in 80% of the Mayfair proceeds, with 100 % of the money going directly to Jefferson.Raffle tickets are given to every child and should make it home in their backpacks. We hope every family will take part in selling them. There are fabulous prizes, so it’s an easy sell! As always, students earn Jefferson bucks by selling raffle tickets. Jefferson bucks are good for free games at the Mayfair carnival.

The Grand Prize

This year’s grand prize will be an iPod Nano!

Other great prizes include:  iPad Mini, Dinner at Foreign Cinema, Dinner at Bay Wolf,  tickets to Disneyland and MUCH, MUCH MORE!

Plant Sale

Another great part of Mayfair is the beautiful potted plants created by parents at Jefferson. These arrangements make beautiful Mother’s Day gifts!

Do you have succulents in your garden? Hens-and-chicks?EuphorbiasAgavesSedums? Could some of them use a little pruning? The Mayfair plant sale team is looking for donations of any and all succulents, and if you have the plants in your yard, it’s easy: Snap off a couple of rosettes, or a baby plants that are beginning to crowd out their parents, and drop them off in the Plant Sale box in the school office. No need to keep the stems moist, or any kind of special handling. Thank you!

We’d also like to have a section of scented geraniums, a.k.a.pelargoniums, in the Plant Sale. They’re super-easy to propagate. Just snip off a small branch and stick the cut end into a pot of soil. The cutting will put out roots without any special treatment, just sunlight & water. If you don’t have a container handy, you can wrap the cut stem in a bit of wet kitchen towel or toilet paper, and put the cutting in a plastic bag. The Plant Sale crew will take care of potting up & tending the cuttings until Mayfair.

Where to Donate

There will be a plant box by the school office through Friday, May 1.

Book and Movie Sale

Don’t miss all the great children’s books, adult paperbacks, movies, and videos that are available for low, low prices at Mayfair. The books are so great that some people come to Mayfair just for the books! Don’t miss out.

Where to Donate

Bring your well-loved books, videos, and dvd’s to the bin in front of the office beginning on April 27.
