Since 2011, our parent-led group — first as the Black Families Group, and then as the renamed Village Group — has been dedicated to challenging structural racism and promoting the goals of economic and racial equity in the school community.

As the school year quickly approaches, we know that many of you are thinking about the BUSD guidelines and the solutions that might work with your family’s situation.

Since 2011, the Black Families Group (renamed the Village Group in 2016, creating space for all families) has been a parent-led group dedicated to addressing systemic issues of social justice and racial equity as they present in our Jefferson community. We continue to do this work, and with the support of the PTA, we would like to share this statement of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement with our Jefferson community —

BUSD will continue to work closely with city and county health officers, as well as the Alameda County Office of Education, to assess whether BUSD will extend the school facilities closure period until the end of the school year.
