Jefferson Parents:
In light of our discussions at our November PTA Meeting around Emergency Preparedness, we discovered that we could make our children safer during an lock-down / active shooter situation if BUSD provides interior-locking doors at our school. Please read the petition for more detail and add your signature so that we can forward to the appropriate people at BUSD and pressure them to take action on this issue.

Please see the below.

Jefferson’s Annual Auction – Save the Date!!

Something is coming to town so please save the date for Jefferson’s Annual Auction – Saturday, March 10th from 6:30-10:00 pm at Neyborly.  More information and tickets will be available soon!

Protein/Granola/Allergen Bar Call

We have had an amazing turnout in the last 2 weeks to reorganize and restock our emergency cache. Thanks, Tej for organizing the efforts and the PTA for financial contribution. We are now asking for donations of granola, protein, fruit bars and bars for student with nuts allergies to be contributed by families. You can bring your contribution to the office. Thanks!

Playdates and Pick up

Please organize student playdates the day before. If students are supposed to go to JAZ or on the bus, that is where they will go.  We cannot allow students to arrange social engagements from the school and then leave with other families or kids. If your child has a pre-arranged playdate, please send a note and give it to the teacher so that we know that they have permission to leave with that family.

Safe Routes to Schools – Golden Sneaker Contest

Lace up those shoes, dust off those bikes, or get ready to share your ride! The Safe Routes to Schools Golden Sneaker Contest is coming to your school.

From February 26 to March 9, students in participating classrooms will work together to reduce car trips by using active and shared transportation options such as:

  • Walking
  • Biking
  • Skateboarding, using a scooter, or any other human-powered wheels
  • Riding the school bus
  • Using public transit such as AC Transit or BART
  • Carpooling with other families

The Golden Sneaker Contest offers a chance for every student to participate. If you live too far from school to walk or roll, you can:

  • Park a few blocks away and walk
  • Meet up with friends who live close to school and walk or roll as a group
  • Start a carpool
  • Take the school bus or public transit to school

Students will track how they get to school each day. The classroom with the highest percentage of these healthy travel choices will win a Golden Sneaker Trophy and celebration.

Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program, sponsored by the Alameda County Transportation Commission, is a comprehensive, proven approach to getting more kids walking and biking safely to school. For more information, visit http://alamedacountysr2s.org/
