Thank you for supporting Jefferson!

Napa and Sonoma Fire Emergency Help Kit

Families,

Today the students created a “donation request” list and distributed that list to every student in Jefferson school.  We will begin collecting donations tomorrow!  This effort has become a school-wide campaign so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a large amount of donations.  If you are available to help us set up a “collection system” please let Sean Keller know.  After speaking with Principal Mary, we’ve determined that the stage in the cafetorium would be the best place for us to collect & organize our donations.  We will need to establish clearly labeled bins & boxes to better streamline our work–This work will require both student & adult support.   This work will be caffeinated by the usual PTA coffee on Friday! But our collection work will start tomorrow, Thursday.

JEFFERSON WORK DAY – DATE CHANGE!!

WhenSat, Oct 21st 30, 10am – 2pm
WhereJefferson Elementary School, 1400 Ada St, Berkeley, CA 94702, USA (map)

Description:

Please join us for a day dedicated to improving the building and grounds around Jefferson. Mary has a number of projects she would like us to tackle. These are things either the district won’t do or won’t do quickly enough.  They include:

– Painting part of the exterior building (pillars, wall ball areas, basketball backboard)

– Landscaping within the school yard

– Cleaning windows and doors

These projects will go a long way to making the school a more inviting place. Please email Phil Polishuk (ppolishuk@gmail.com) if you are interested in helping. It doesn’t have to be for the entire time.  Also, if anyone has access to a rototiller, ladders, shovels and rakes please let me know.

The Village Group

The Village Group is a group of families and educators at our school with a mission of building a cultural community and understanding among Jefferson’s families, teachers, and students. We organize several events at the school (including the Multicultural Potluck, Art and Music Family Night, and Juneteenth. It is also a place to talk about diversity and equity at our school, making sure the whole school community is included and represented. Our next meeting is on Monday, Oct 16th. Childcare and food is usually provided. Stay tuned for future gatherings led by the The Village Group.
Thanks,
Laura

Jeffersons and Daughters: Gift Cards Needed

Jefferson has a strong tradition of supporting each other in challenging times.  Part of how we do that is that we keep gift cards (i.e., Target, Whole Foods, Sprouts) on hand for emergency situations.  Our supply is low so we are putting out a call to the school community.  Can you donate a gift card?  Please drop it by the office and tell Courtney it is for the Our School Cares folder.  You can also order cards online at Whole Foods (which is near the family homeless shelter) or Target and have them mailed to the school: Attention Lily Howell, 1400 Ada St, Berkeley, CA 94702.

Thanks!

Amanda, Melaine and Kellie
