Kids Care Event – Sept 16th

Hello Jefferson Families!

Hope you are all settling into the new school year!  KidsCare – a community service club for Jefferson students and their families – is back with another exciting calendar of events.

Join us for our first activity of the year on Saturday September 16 from 9-12pm (stay as long as you can). We will be participating in the International Shoreline Cleanup at the Berkeley Marina.  Come learn about local marine life and be part of an international effort to save our oceans.

Because of the physical nature of this event, all children participating in the cleanup must have adult supervision.  All children will also need to have their parent or legal guardian sign a waiver, which can be completed at the beginning of the event.

More information about the International Shoreline Cleanup can be found here.

WHEN: Saturday, Sept 16th, 2017, 9-12 p.m.
:  Shorebird Park Nature Center, at 160 University Avenue
WHAT TO WEAR:  sturdy shoes, dress in layers, hat, sunscreen, gloves and a reusable bucket (if you have)
WHAT TO BRING: reusable water bottle

Questions? Want to carpool to the activity?  Contact amylberlin@gmail.com for more information.

Please join us for a day dedicated to improving the building and grounds around Jefferson. Mary has a number of projects she would like us to tackle. These are things either the district won’t do or won’t do quickly enough.  They include:

– Painting part of the exterior building (pillars, wall ball areas, basketball backboard)

– Landscaping within the school yard

– Cleaning windows and doors

These projects will go a long way to making the school a more inviting place. Please email Phil Polishuk (ppolishuk@gmail.com) if you are interested in helping. It doesn’t have to be for the entire time.  Also, if anyone has access to a rototiller, ladders, shovels and rakes please let me know.

Emergency and Lunch Forms – Please continue to send the lunch and emergency cards in. You can give them to the teacher or office.

Morning Drop Off – There will many families that want to join their students on the yard for the first few weeks. Please make sure that you fine legal parking places, are not blocking the driveways and that you are not parking in the passenger drop off zone on Rose or Acton. When you park in the passenger zone there is not enough space to drop off students and it creates a safety hazard. Please keep our kids safe.

Medical Authorization Forms –  Don’t forget to bring doctor signed medical authorization forms if you are leaving medication. You can pick one up with Courtney in the office.
