Double your money for Jefferson!

Have you contributed to the Giving Campaign yet? A group of Jefferson families have just pledged to match donations up to $7,000. Now is the time to donate and double your money! Contributions support core school programming that make Jefferson a great place for our kids to learn, play and grow! We need your support today to make sure essential programs can continue for next year. Put a check made out to Jefferson PTA in the locked PTA box in the office, or donate online at http://jefferson.berkeleypta.org/.

Another way to look at it: What do you get for the price of a week of camp?

What do you get at Jefferson for the price of a week of summer camp? The Jefferson PTA spends $300 per child per year to make sure all of our kids are getting the great education they deserve. That means classroom grants for all those cool projects we saw at open house; field trips to Camp Arroyo, art museums, the symphony and more; PE instruction; Dave Nettell’s Cooperative Adventures; and vital services like English-language development and counseling.

As we wrap up the year we still need to raise $15,000 to meet our budget goal of $40,000, which combined with the other school fundraisers makes all this possible. Please make your donation to the school today! Visit: jefferson.berkeleypta.org to donate by PayPal or credit card, or deposit your check in the green PTA mailbox in the office.”

GIVING CAMPAIGN – Thanks to those who have already donated to the Giving Campaign.  You can continue to donate online on the PTA website, http://jefferson.berkeleypta.org/

Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) program

Please help bring more effective walking & biking safety programming to your school by taking a brief parent survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M88ZSZ5 (English) and https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M8YDLSZ (Spanish)

Your participation in this confidential survey helps the program better understand challenges and barriers to walking or biking to school.

A’s Game

A’s Game re-scheduled for September 10th, 2017. 1:05 pm. Details for getting new tickets for previous ticket-holders to be announced at a later date.

5th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Marked your calendars for the 5th grade promotion ceremony.  It will take place on Thursday, June 15th from 8:45 to about 10:00, and then a brunch/celebration (hosted by the 4th grade parents) will take place on the yard afterward. You can pull siblings out of class for the ceremony, and there are no restrictions on how many family members can attend.  Please let me know if you have any questions (loribhess@aol.com) and make sure to pack some tissues! :)

Pride Day

The morning of Thursday, June 1st all students at Jefferson will be having a “Welcoming Families” lesson. The Welcoming Families lesson will focus on creating a respectful and supportive environment within Jefferson that embraces family diversity, creating LGBTQ- and gender-inclusive schools, and supporting transgender and non-binary students.

After the lesson, to celebrate the diversity within Jefferson’s own community, the students will be asked to help create a school Rainbow Flag.

We are looking for about 10 parent volunteers to help facilitate what will be a fantastic and fun morning (8:45–11:30)!!

Please email tpastika@gmail.com (Terry Pastika, parent of 5th graders) if you have time to contribute!
